Kestryl's Quiet Little Spot

I just spent a little time reading a friend's blog (which I might say is damn entertaining) and came to realize that I cannot think of any long time hobby/sport/interest that I've had in my life. Don't get me wrong, I've had a lot of hobbies..... A lot of them, however nothing that has been a major part of my life for any serious amount of time.

My friend has spent 20 some years of his life learning/practicing/teaching martial arts. First let me say that it is pretty damn scary that anyone my age (and I truly mean my age.... we're only 16 days apart) can say they have spent 20 years of their life doing anything, boy I feel old. Anyways, I can't think of any one thing that I've spent 20.... 15..... 10.... or even 5 years doing, correct me if I'm wrong here.

OK, maybe you can say I've spent almost 15 years working on, playing on, learning on, playing some more on, building, and playing even more on, computers. But come on... who hasn't these days. The computer is part of everyday life now, maybe a little more for me and my friends, but still you get my point. And since computers are my job, can I really call that a hobby/interest? I mean would a plumber call pipes and sewers a hobby? Please don't take this as me complaining about what I do for a living, I truly do love my job, but I'm just saying that I can't call it a hobby.

As I said there have been hobbies... here's a few:

Scuba	Motorcycles	Hiking
Tiki Culture	Disneyana	California History
Photography	Web Editing	Bartending

And these are just a few. Don't misunderstand, I still am interested in a lot of these hobbies. I still read books on California History and I still mix my self a Tiki Drink every now and then, but they are no longer a major part of my life. They are were at one time.... I would dive into each one of these hobbies head first, and maybe after a couple of weeks or months come back up for air. Eventually however, my interest would fade and it would just become something I took up again every now and then.

I guess that's just my thing.... many different interests. If I look at it that way, I can say that I've spent 20 years of my life just doing that.... pursuing interests.... many of them. I can't complain, it's left me with a wide range of useless information that I can pull out of my ass when necessary in order to find something that I can talk about with pretty much anyone.

So what the hell am I complaining about??? Anyways, like I said before do I really want to say that I've spent 20 years of my life doing anything.... Shit I feel old.
